If you’re the kind of traveller who enjoys doing things your way, and waking up in the city that never sleeps is right up there on your bucket list, New York City’s uber-stylish Hotel Hayden should be your first choice for top-of-the-heap living.
Rising from the hustle of New York’s Chelsea district, where storefronts are filled floor-to-ceiling with yards of luxury fabrics and sidewalks overflow with fresh flowers, Hotel Hayden rewrites the rules for lock-up-and-go holidaying in the borough of Manhattan. With New York’s largest concentration of art galleries, and must-see attractions like the Empire State building and Madison Square Garden within walking distance, Hotel Hayden is the ideal base from which to explore the Big Apple.
New York vacillates vividly between being an unforgivingly urban and an inspiring place to the uninitiated. Its energy is almost palpable, especially at the intersection between three of the city’s most iconic districts – the Flower District, Fashion District, and the trendy Meatpacking District. Here, the former Hotel Indigo, Chelsea, welcomes guests to 122 fashionably elegant and tastefully appointed suites, contemporary Greek cuisine, and unbeatable skyline views from its famous rooftop bar.
“The Hayden” is more than just a trendy place to lay your head – from arrival to departure, the Hotel Hayden hospitality set the tone for our recent trip to Manhattan. Arriving hours before the recommended check-in time – weary from a 16-hour flight, an hour’s commute from John F Kennedy airport, and a four-block walk from Penn Station – the Hotel Hayden welcome was friendly and efficient, and without skipping a beat, made our suite available for early check-in and a much-needed hot shower.
The Hayden’s three suite options make choosing your ideal living space a breeze. Each suite – whether categorised as King, Double Double, or Chelsea King – is cleverly appointed with all the travel essentials you may need in this town, plus a well-stocked mini bar. Hotel Hayden is certainly one of the district’s most stylish urban retreats.
King suites are perfect for up to two guests, while Double Double suites will ensure a comfy stay for families on the move. The Chelsea King suits, located on the top floors, each features a large foyer, a comfortable sitting area, a spacious work area, and a large marble bathroom – along with the space and a view to enjoy your New York City stay at its best. Amenities in all suites include large flat-screen TVs, Keurig coffee makers, Geneva Guild body-care products, and high-speed uncapped Wi-Fi.
Taking things one step further, Hotel Hayden also caters for special needs guests with wider, wheelchair-accessible doors, roll-in showers, and Braille signage on all elevators, egress doors and room numbers.
Naturally, dining at the Hayden is a relaxed affair, with signature Greek dishes served in the Mediterranean-inspired restaurant and bistro. Breakfast is served up to 11h00, and eases into lunch and dinner, served up to 16h00 and 23h00 respectively. And if taking in spectacular views of the New York City skyline is on your to-do list – and let’s face it, it should be – the Mykonos Blue rooftop bar will be your new favourite spot. Here, specialty cocktails such as the signature Mykonos Blue and Onassis Martini complement a selection of light Greek bites served until midnight in a trendy lounge setting on the hotel’s patio.
The Hotel Hayden also caters for groups and meetings in the Hendricks Boardroom, and can make event planners available who will assist guests in hosting a memorable business event. Audio-visual services are on offer, as is on-site catering, free Wi-Fi, and a business centre.
Exploring New York is an exciting and probably life-changing experience, made even better when your base of operations is funky, friendly and affordable. Fusing the best of many different worlds, the Hayden is much more than a sleepover venue, or a launch-pad into the city – although these things it does exceedingly well. Our overall experience was top notch from arrival to departure, and added a layer of sophistication to our NYC travel induction.
