Indulging in Cape Town’s Famous Velvet Cake’s

Think vibrant colours, towering layers of icing and cake, unique flavour combinations and packaging that is to-die-for.

The Velvet Cake Company has taken off in Cape Town, from its first store in Durbanville to the opening of the second store in Loop Street. The exceptional bakery offers baking services to suit all your celebratory needs.

Stepping inside The Velvet Cake Co, you’ll see a vibrant array of delicious eats, from cookies to cupcakes, muffins, quiches and, of course, cakes! You can pick and choose from the wide selection of cakes, trying flavours such as the famous rainbow cake, the South African inspired milktart, the in-house favourite red velvet and popular Millionaires Cheesecake.

The owner, Leadi Van Zyl, qualified as a pastry chef and opened up a small coffee shop, Treat Patisserie, in the Hertex Fabrics showroom. As the store began to grow, Van Zyl expanded, launching the famous Velvet Cake Co in Durbanville, which soon became her primary endeavour.

The Loop Street store has an urban city feel, in a space that has a lot of heritage behind it. In keeping with the times, the Velvet Cake Co has an online store where customers can purchase cakes to order, with delivery!

Special occasion cakes are made to order, with an incredible 24 hour turn-around time. You can also step inside for a specialised coffee, made using beans from Bean There, which in itself is delicious and a great initiative. Now, you can pop-on for the newly launched cake by-the-slice options, allowing you to experience a taste of the many delicious options available.

Last-minute celebrations can be pulled off with ease, by popping in-store to select a cake of your choice, or ordering online. If you’re missing a sweet tooth, there are a range of savoury options to try too, or the healthier cupcakes, made with fruit and nuts.
