Sunday Brunch with an Internationally-Flavoured Twist at The Yard

The recent renovation of the Silo District near the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town shepherded in a new era for the area; one of modern art museums, fine-dining restaurants, chocolate studios, and exciting pop-ups.

The Yard is known for its daring take on both Asian and European cuisine, with menus featuring international favourites like dim sum, beef satay, and chicken liver pate, as well as dashes of Mexican flair like nachos. This global-centric restaurant is dedicated to the pursuit of good food and fabulous flavours.

This March, The Yard is launching their delicious new brunch menu, and we got a scrumptious first taste…

Being served every Sunday from 10h00, The Yard’s brunch spread caters to every palate – whether you like your breakfasts healthy and savoury or indulgently sweet. Of course, the menu features all the classic items like croissants and eggs benedict, but you can bet there’s a foodie twist. The Yard’s eggs benedict is topped not with traditional Hollandaise sauce, but with its own, original Maltaise sauce – a mixture of Hollandaise and blood orange juice – which gives the dish a refreshing lift.

The healthy menu options include Bircher Muesli which is made up of rooibos, berries, peaches spiced with cinnamon, and a crumbled nut brittle served with probiotic-rich yoghurt; as well as an egg-white soufflé omelette with avocado, wild mushrooms, baby spinach, and brie cheese.

Who says waffles can only be sweet, not savoury? Well, The Yard has both. The savoury toppings include beef bobotie, chicken tikka masala, or prawn bisque – all of which are packed with robust flavours that only high-quality ingredients can deliver. The sweet waffles are topped with fresh berries and liquorice or zesty lemon meringue; a treat that everyone deserves.

Yet another example of The Yard’s foodie take on a classic brunch dish is the bagel, which is served with saffron chicken tikka with mango chutney and turmeric mayo on the side. You won’t find a bagel with more punch anywhere in Cape Town.

In keeping with co-founder of The Yard, G. P Singh’s Punjabi heritage, The Yard’s brunch menu centrepiece is the traditionally made dosa. This fermented rice flour pancake is both vegan and gluten free, and can be ordered with chicken biryani, dal makhani, palak paneer, or keema-spiced lamb.

Sit outside underneath the umbrellas, and watch the harbour and the day go by as you tuck into a delicious brunch treat, which is best enjoyed with friends or family. To add an extra special touch, between 12h00 and 15h00, patrons will be able to enjoy the sounds of soft jazz pervading from the live jazz musicians.
