Nicky Furniss

My parents treated me to my very first flight when I was about 15 – puddle jumping in a small airplane from Harare to Hwange National Park, Lake Kariba and eventually Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe.
Since then, I have had a passion for travelling and exploring – so much so that I studied Media Studies and Journalism with the express purpose of one day becoming a travel writer. This is also why, as soon as I finished my Masters Degree, I signed up to live and work in Japan for a year. One year turned into four because the opportunity to explore the neighbouring countries of South East Asia, Asia and Australasia was just too enticing, not to mention having the chance to become deeply acquainted with Japan, a country I now call my second home.
Since I moved back home to South Africa, I have been lucky enough to be able to indulge all of my passions (for writing, travelling and editing magazines) by working as a Senior Editor on several titles for TCB Media. My favourite part of my job is exploring all the many gems our country, the region and indeed the rest of the world have to offer travellers keen to broaden their horizons.
My “country count” is close to 40 and I have no plans to stop yet!
